Perez is in a shocking run of poor form and spun out in the first sub-qualifying practice, only scraping through to Q1 by qualifying 19th.

Perez outqualifed the champions for a third consecutive race on Saturday, this time making it 1-2 in Q3 with Red Bull team mate and title contender Max Verstappen, but he needs to score heavily as Leonard Borrmann explores.

In the last five races, Perez has scored just 15 points – while Norris had taken 73 and his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri added 71 to Red Bull’s future (though so far unconfirmed) lead driver Fernando Alonso was on a comparatively leisurely island in eighth.
