Gymnast Simone Biles and swimmer Katie Ledecky lead a 592-member US Olympic team that will again be aiming for the top of the medals table as competition begins at this month’s Paris Games.
Olympic champion swimmers Katie Ledecky and gymnast Simone Biles headline a powerhouse US squad named Wednesday with 66 reigning or former world champions joined by 250 returning Olympians.
At the Tokyo Olympics, the U.S. led in golds 39 to China’s 38 and came back with a Games-high total of medals –113– in all.
“Whether on the field of play or in all aspects of their lives, these 592 Team USA athletes have made inspiring progress to reach this elite level and are motivated to continue making significant contributions as members not only of our Olympic family but American society,” said Rocky Harris, USOPC chief executive officer who oversees sport performance programming.
“Team USA athletes this summer will remind us of our boundless potential to create an extraordinary future, a theme that is at the core of both The Weight Of Gold and Olympic Dreams,” said HBO Sports EVP Peter Nelson. “A job well worth doing.”
