A day after the former caught his first-ever Grand Slam singles title, Hsieh Su-wei alongside Jan Zielinski won their second mixed doubles major of 2021 with a one-sided,6-4, 6-2 victory over Mexican pair Santiago Gonzalez and Giuliana Olmos.
The pair — who had been a last-minute combination when they won the Australian Open title in January, crushed unseeded Mexicans Arevalo and Reyes-Varela who were bidding to become the first Mexican duo to lift a Grand Slam crown after shocking second seeds Joe Salisbury of Great Britain and American Rajeev Ram on Saturday.
However, on Centre Court the Taipei-Polish duo faced a well-oiled machine as Hsieh and Zielinski struck early to break serve in game one before blitzing through set number one.
The opening set is over after just 33 minutes and it proved to be one-way traffic throughout the second as Hsieh/ Zielinski took only 76 mintues sealing a straight forward victory avoiding another rain-hit day, with their win in the rescheduled mixed doubles final having been move from Thursday alongside women’s singles quarter finals.
Hsieh also won the women’s doubles seven years earlier, and her fifth title lifted her to 5-1 overall in championship matches at Wimbledon — she is now a five-time titlist. It also took her career doubles tally to nine.
