Marchione, Oct 9 Ferrari Formula One chassis technical director Enrico Cardile has resigned and is leaving his position with immediate effect, the Italian team said on Monday. Team principal Fred Vasseur will undertake responsibility for the chassis section in the meantime. Cardile has up to 20 years of experience with Ferrari.
Amid concerns about losing the championship place to rebounding McLaren, Aston Martin, reaffiliated with double reigning world champion Fernando Alonso, has recently been hypothesized in Italian media as a possible move. Loic Serra, due to start at Ferrari in October from Mercedes as head of chassis performance, would have reported to Cardile.
The sport’s most prestigious outfit is actively recruiting celebrity designer Adrian Newey, who publicly stated his departure from Red Bull. According to British and F1 media, Aston Martin have also offered Newey a job. “As a racing driver or someone on the technical side of things, having someone like Adrian on your side is something that everyone would eventually admire,” Canadian driver Lance Stroll, whose father owns Aston Martin, said last week.
Britain’s home Grand Prix winner last Sunday, Lewis Hamilton, who has won the championship seven times, moves from Mercedes to Ferrari next season. Yet Ferrari struggled at Silverstone, with Carlos Sainz finishing fifth and gaining extra points for the quickest lap, while team-mate Charles Leclerc finished 14th, his second nonscored straight race.
Ferrari introduced an upgrade pack for the vehicle in Spain a month ago.
