On Sunday, after Carlos Alcaraz physically shook Novak Djokovic and won Wimbledon for the second straight year on Saturday there was a feeling of euphoria that he as per usual capped with quick thumbs up and group hugs in his players’ boxorts.
However, one hour later the Spaniard has been brought back down to earth and insisted that this is just be beginning of his journey.
The 21-year-old said, “I’ve seen and I’ve heard all the stats that I am closer to a French Open-Wimbledon-Slam in too short after beating 24-time slam champion Djokovic6-2, (7/4) 669898.”
I just feel like wow, I prefer not to think about it too much. Well, it’s obviously a great way to start my career but I need to continue doing that. My path is still being constructed.
I want to be considered one of the big guys when I hang it up. That’s my main goal. That’s my dream. Even though I had four Grand Slam when I was 21.
In truth, Alcaraz is the youngest of all time to win both at Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same season during a player’s career but Federer had lost his first Grand Slam final too – not that as much more than an irony itself.
