After this click, Mercedes clarifies how to get back to the top – News Sports

Over the last two grand prix weekends, Mercedes have won more races than in the last two years, and team boss Toto Wolff said the turnaround owed to a moment when it all clicked.

Mercedes won the last unique eight consecutive constructor’s titles from 2014-2021, but taking only one grand prix in 2022 and none in 2023 amid a Red Bull ra wave was not acceptable.

Everything changed in Austria when Red Bull’s triple champion Max Verstappen and McLaren’s Lando Norris collided, and Lewis Hamilton profited from George Russell’s pole position slapped one last Sunday.

“This is five races where we were not even contenders for the podium which looks like the third year of no-performance, and then it clicked,” Wolff explained to reporters after the race at Silverstone. “Suddenly, everything that did not make sense makes sense and the development direction by result has the performance as in the old days. We are finding performance, put it on the car, and translate it into lap time, and we were not able to do that over the last two years,” he added.
