Kayak cross is expected to create a stir at the Paris canoeing events – News Sports

Other changes taking place at the canoeing events will be a new twist of kayak cross races and raising more women in effort to enhance gender equality for Paris Games.

Athletes will compete in 16 events between the canoe slalom and sprint disciplines, with the programme for 2024 boosted by head-to-head kayak cross racing.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) wants to appeal to a younger audience and having already introduced sports such as climbing in the Games, it is hoped kayak cross will achieve something similar on the water.

Taking place over a total of eight days, the kayak cross will replace men’s and women’s K1 200m sprint races with timed solo runs followed by short course head-to-head competition between four racers.
